Tuesday Tips: Three ways to connect with other bloggers
Each Tuesday the Portland Bloggers’ Weblog will host an advice column of sorts. “Tuesday Tips” is a place for bloggers to pick up a few simple tricks to benefit them while blogging. It is also a space for bloggers to share what is working for them. Tuesday Tips’ topics will range from blogging in general, photography, writing, social networking, advertising, and more. If you would like to contribute to “Tuesday Tips” just visit our contact page and fill out the short form.
Three Ways to Connect with Other Bloggers
1. Read blogs and comment— This seems simple enough, but you would be surprised how often it is overlooked and its effectiveness. Read blogs that you enjoy, and leave insightful comments. That’s all there is to it.
I met one of my blogging friends (and now, also, real life friends) by her comments on my blog. Kira, from Rain or Shine, has a wonderful blog that really gives a great peek into her wonderful family and life. After commenting back and forth for a while it felt as if I already knew her when I finally got to meet her in real life.
2. Utilize Social Networking— Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are seriously great ways to get to know other bloggers better. While blogging gives a daily (or weekly) glimpse into someones lives, their social networking feeds will often give several glimpses throughout the day. Connecting by following, liking, and commenting on social-networking posts can initiate a conversation between you and other bloggers.
I often use my Instagram feed and Twitter feed to initiate Ladies’ Night and/or Playdates with fellow bloggers. I’ve loved the many new people I’ve been able to meet since finally caving and getting in on the Twitter craze.
3. Go to a local Meet-Up— You didn’t think I’d leave this one out, did you? Blogger Meet-Ups, workshops, and conferences are fabulous ways to network with other bloggers face-to-face. If you live in the Portland area then you are lucky to have a few choices for meet-ups. Our meet-ups happen every two months and offer different themes/topics each time. We, of course, want you to visit ours. But, you can also check out the following: PDX Bloggers Meet-Up (Meet once a month at Tabor Space in Portland) and The Pacific Northwest Blogger group.
If you don’t live in the area then a quick google search will put you in the right direction! I’d love to hear of any other blogger meet-up groups if you know of any!
